ActiveSync, rilis sync software terbaru untuk perangkat berbasis Windows mobile, menyediakan fungsionalitas sinkronisasi (synchronization) yang sangat baik dengan komputer berbasis Windows dan Microsoft Outlook langsung dari dalam komputer. ActiveSync berfungsi sebagai pintu gerbang (gateway) antara komputer berbasis Windows dengan perangkat berbasis Windows mobile milik Anda, sehingga memungkinkan untuk mentransfer informasi Outlook, dokumen Office, gambar, audio, video dan berbagai aplikasi dari dan ke perangkat yang Anda gunakan.
Selain digunakan untuk melakukan sinkronisasi dengan sebuah komputer PC (Personal Computer), ActiveSync dapat melakukan sinkronisasi secara langsung dengan Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 sehingga Anda tetap dapat memantau email, data kalendar (calendar data), task dan informasi kontak yang diupdate secara wireless ketika Anda sedang berjauhan dengan komputer Anda. Terdapat beberapa requirement atau spesifikasi tertentu agar Anda dapat menggunakan software ini, diantaranya: * Sistem operasi komputer yang didukung: Windows 2000 Service Pack 4; Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1; Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 for Itanium-based Systems; Windows Server 2003, Standard x64 Edition; Windows XP Media Center Edition; Windows XP Professional x64 Edition ; Windows XP Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2; Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. * Microsoft Outlook 2000, Microsoft Outlook XP, atau Microsoft Outlook 2003, yang dibutuhkan untuk melakukan sinkronisasi email, calendar, contacts, tasks, dan notes. (Direkomendasikan Microsoft Outlook 2003). * Microsoft Office 2000, Microsoft Office XP atau Microsoft Office 2003. * Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 atau versi yang terbaru (dibutuhkan). * Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0. Sedangkan untuk sistem operasi perangkat mobile (mobile device operating system) yang didukung oleh software ActiveSync ini, di antaranya adalah: Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0, Messaging and Security Feature Pack for Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0, Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003, Microsoft Pocket PC 2002, Microsoft Windows CE OS version 3.0, Microsoft Smartphone 2002, Microsoft Windows CE OS version 3.0.
